According to the National Statistics Institute (INE) and the National Migration Service, in 2023 foreign nationals represented nearly 8% of the country\u2019s population (more than 1.6 million people). <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Coquimbo Region, whose capital is La Serena, is among the areas with the highest concentration of migrants, particularly from Venezuela, Haiti, Colombia, Peru, and Bolivia.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many migrants enter through unofficial border crossings and settle without regularized documentation, creating multiple vulnerabilities:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Employment-related<\/strong>: high levels of informal work, low wages, and arbitrary dismissals.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Housing-related:<\/strong> rentals without contracts, abusive charges, and overcrowding.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Social<\/strong>: lack of awareness of rights, discrimination, and difficulties with integration.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In response to this reality, the Dominican Sisters of the Annunciation of the Santa Rosa de Lima Province reaffirm their conviction that every person has the right to live a dignified life with equal opportunities, and that access to justice and regularized documentation is a fundamental step toward achieving this.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Within this context, the \u201cUniting Borders\u201d Migrant Ministry supports migrant families through a free legal assistance service that is essential for accessing basic rights and building a dignified future.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"759\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/anunciatasolidaria.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/migrantes-la-serena-chile.png?resize=1024%2C759&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4531\" srcset=\"https:\/\/anunciatasolidaria.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/migrantes-la-serena-chile-1024x759.png 1024w, https:\/\/anunciatasolidaria.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/migrantes-la-serena-chile-980x726.png 980w, https:\/\/anunciatasolidaria.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/migrantes-la-serena-chile-480x356.png 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 980px) 980px, (min-width: 981px) 1024px, 100vw\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The project<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The \u201cUniting Borders\u201d Migrant Ministry, run by the Dominican Sisters of the Annunciation, provides a free legal assistance service in La Serena to protect the rights of migrants and promote their full integration into society.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The project includes the support of a lawyer who assists migrants with:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Documentation regularization.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Guidance on rental agreements and labor claims.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Access to basic services and citizens\u2019 rights.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The service is provided two days per week (Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.) at the Ministry\u2019s offices, offering personalized and ongoing support throughout the year.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">De esta manera, se responde no solo a una necesidad pr\u00e1ctica, sino tambi\u00e9n a la convicci\u00f3n de construir comunidades m\u00e1s justas e inclusivas, donde los migrantes encuentren oportunidades reales de desarrollo y vida digna.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>General objective:<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Promote the social and labor integration of the migrant population in La Serena.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Promover la defensa de derechos humanos y la integraci\u00f3n cultural. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Support migration regularization through legal assistance.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provide information on rights and responsibilities in Chile. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Facilitate access to formal employment and decent housing conditions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Beneficiaries:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Approximately 120 migrants per year (young mothers with children, families, and vulnerable adults).<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Indirect beneficiaries<\/strong>: residents of Kpakpam\u00e8, neighboring communities, and users from nearby urban areas.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Total project budget: \u20ac2,000.00<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Specifications: Chile has experienced a significant increase in migrant arrivals over the past decade.
