Project implemented during the 2024–2025 academic year
In September 2023, Spain was hit by an episode of intense and torrential rainfall associated with a High-Altitude Isolated Depression (DANA). The regions most affected included areas of the Valencian Community and Castilla-La Mancha, where the heavy rains caused severe flooding, river overflows, structural damage, evacuations, and disruption of basic services.
The families most affected belonged to low-income neighborhoods, peripheral urban areas, and rural communities, often living in vulnerable housing conditions and with limited support networks. Among the organizations on the front line were parishes, educational centers, social organizations, and diocesan networks that activated immediate relief responses.
The intervention
At Anunciata Solidarity Foundation, and faithful to our commitment to stand alongside the most vulnerable, we launched an emergency campaign to channel financial resources to organizations with a direct presence in the affected areas.
Given the impossibility of intervening operationally on the ground, our mission was to activate our internal and external networks to support the work of those who were able to assist, accompany, and help rebuild the lives of affected families.
This action reaffirms that, although our work is usually focused on rural communities in developing countries, we cannot remain indifferent to suffering when it occurs close to home.

The assistance provided benefited, directly and indirectly, families affected by the DANA in municipalities across the Valencian Community and Castilla-La Mancha through the following organizations:
- Cáritas Valencia
- Cáritas Albacete
- Escuelas Católicas
- Mensajeros de la Paz
- Our Lady of Monte-Sión Parish of La Torre (Paiporta)
Total funds raised: €78,000, fully allocated to the organizations listed above.
